Algarve Vilamoura – an ideal holiday location in the Algarve
Vilamoura is not actually a town but rather the name given to what is the largest single tourist complex in Europe covering some 2,000 hectares of land. Its temperate climate and beautiful landscapes make it a superb destination. Due to its size it offers the visitor nearly every form of sport and entertainment, and its southern border is lined by a long sandy beach.
As a location specifically designed for tourism it has proved to be a very successful location for all ages thanks to the variety of facilities that it provides holidaymakers.There’s a lot happening at Vilamoura. The following is just a selection of what’s on offer:

Vilamoura Beaches
The Vilamoura Main Beach is a large sandy beach located in front of all the hotels. There are beach snacks & bar facilities and facilities to hire a range of water sports.

Falesia Beach takes its name from the fascinating gouged red cliffs that form a backdrop to the endless stretch of sand. As these cliffs are not very tall access is still convenient but they act as a windbreak any winds from the north during the off-season. This beach is to the west of Vilamoura before reaching Olhos de Água. It’s a comfortable walking distance has a number of beach snack & bar facilities.
Vilamoura Marina
The heart of Vilamoura is its Marina. As well as offering around 1000 berths it is possible to organise mini cruises and fishing trips. For the keen shopper the area offers a range of interesting boutiques and in the evening it’s a lively place to be with a range of bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
Activities
Amongst the many attractions and facilities there are four different Golf Courses, a large Marina, a Lawn Bowling Club, a Tennis Centre, a Sports Club, a Shooting Club, Night Clubs, an International Casino, a Cinema, a private Airstrip and an excellent Riding School.
For the children there is also a water park and it possible to arrange a wide variety of water sports at the beach.
Places to visit in Vilamoura
Within the centre of Vilamoura there is a preserved Roman Site and Museum of Cerro da Vila providing an interesting glimpse into the past of the area. In Roman times this location was important in producing a fish paste known as “garum". The ruins also include the baths in which the mariners used to bathe.
